Puppy Potty Training Rewards:
It is not real secret that puppies respond well to praise. Everyone
knows that dogs like attention. You can use this to your advantage
when it comes to toilet training your puppy in addition to a
delicious biscuit now and again!
One difficult thing can be not shouting at your puppy. I know we all
have the best intentions and when we think about it logically, we
really can’t imagine ourselves yelling at a poor innocent puppy.
However when we have come in from a busy day to find another mess on
the carpet or we have to clean some up before we even leave for the
day our tempers get frayed.
Under these circumstances it is easy to snap at shout at your dog.
However your puppy will not understand. They will not associate the
shouting you are doing with the toilet that they did possibly hours
ago. So this is not an effective
puppy potty training
technique.
Smacking your puppy is just as bad as shouting at them. They simply
will not understand why you are smacking them. Instead they become
scared of you and this can backtrack on any of the good work your
training schedule has already done.
Instead concentrate on the good things that your puppy has achieved.
If your puppy heads to the back door to be let out into the yard
praise them that they are a good pup and they will know they have
done well. They want to please you so this will be something that
they know they can do to make you happy.
If your puppy goes to their area in the house that they are allowed
to pee on, (like a potty mat) praise them again. The biggest praise
should always be when they promptly take themselves out into the
yard to go the toilet. This is what your whole training schedule is
aiming towards and your puppy doing this should be a real cause for
celebration.
Praise for your puppy can simply be a well done and a stroke,
however if your puppy has done particularly well then you should
have some small treats in the house to show them just how proud of
them you are.
Remember that telling your puppy how good they have done and giving
them a reward works far more effectively than shouting and scolding
your puppy.
