Sometimes if it is taking longer than usual to train a puppy you can become disheartened, seeming like you will never get there. However as long as you persevere; then it is perfectly possible to train your puppy. Remember that lots of people have been in your shoes and there is lot of help and advice available.

There are lots of issues that can cause the puppy potty training to take longer than it should. However there are also ways and means around this to ensure that they don’t have a detrimental effect on your puppies training schedule.

For example not spending enough time with your puppy can slow down the training process. However lots of us have busy lives, jobs and schedules that we have to stick too. Your puppy will benefit from just a few subtle changes. Can you get home in your lunch break to let your puppy outside for a few minutes and give them a few minutes attention? They will love this & benefit from being able to go to the toilet.

If this is not a problem don’t be afraid of asking neighbors or friends to help. Most people know what it is like to train a puppy so will be happy to help if you are busy. Remember that all of these solutions are only temporary; your puppy won’t be a puppy for ages.

If you get home and your puppy has soiled on the carpet it can be hard not let your first reaction to be to shout at the dog. However remember that your dog may have done this hours ago, so they won’t associate your yelling with the mess they have mad.  Smacking your puppy or rubbing your puppy’s nose in their mess will not trigger good behavior instead it will make them scared of you.

If you are having problems potty training your puppy then the best advice you can have would be to stick with it. With a proper schedule and sticking to the same routine you will have success. Your puppy wants to make you happy, so by showing them you are pleased with good behavior and ignoring the bad your puppy will soon master the trick of potty training.
